What is a finger-prick test and how does it work?
A finger-prick blood test is a quick, convenient way to measure your testosterone and other important health markers that play a part in your energy, mood, and performance.
You’ll use a small lancet (a sterile device that makes a gentle prick in your fingertip) to collect drops of blood into a collection tube.
Once you’ve posted your sample back to the lab, our doctors will review your results and explain what they mean for your hormones and your treatment plan.
How to take a Leger finger-prick test in 3 simple steps
1. Step 1 – Get ready
Before you do anything else, read through your instructions. They’ll walk you through every step and help avoid mistakes.
Next, warm up your hands. Run them under warm water, take a short walk, or do a few star jumps to get the blood flowing.
Make sure you’re hydrated too. A glass of water about 30 minutes before helps make collecting your sample easier.
2. Step 2 – Collect your sample
You’ll need to take your sample between Monday and Thursday, preferably in the morning.
- Choose the side of your fingertip (it’s less sensitive than the middle) and clean it with the wipe provided.
- Use the lancet to make a quick prick and gently squeeze or milk your finger from base to tip to help the blood flow.
- Fill your collection tube to the marked line. It might take a minute or two, take your time.
3. Step 3 – Post it back
Once you’ve filled and labelled your tube, pop it in the Freepost pack and post it the same day. We’ll confirm when your sample arrives, and your results will be reviewed by one of our team and ready online in just a few days.
How long does it take to do a finger-prick blood test?
Most men complete their finger-prick test between 10 and 30 minutes.
It’s easy to do from home before work, after the gym, or whenever suits you. You just need a clean surface, steady hands, and ten minutes to spare.
