His work focuses on helping patients understand their symptoms, interpret their results, and access appropriate, evidence-based treatment pathways.

Dr Savage specialises in:

  • Testosterone deficiency and hypogonadism
  • Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)

Career and background

Doug began his career as a GP before focusing more deeply on hormonal health and testosterone deficiency.

He has run specialist clinics from St Vincent’s Medical Centre for many years, treating patients from across the UK. Over time, he has become known for managing more complex cases, particularly where testosterone deficiency overlaps with other health conditions such as metabolic disease.

Research, media, and thought leadership

Dr Savage is widely recognised as a leading voice in testosterone deficiency in the UK. He can provide expert commentary on testosterone deficiency, TRT, men’s hormone health and related clinical pathways, as well as topical medical issues

He has:

  • Contributed to medical journals and national guidelines through advisory groups
  • Delivered lectures and training to healthcare professionals
  • Appeared across radio and television discussing men’s health and hormone-related conditions

Often described as an “expert’s expert”, Doug regularly supports both clinicians and patients in navigating an area of medicine that is still widely misunderstood.

Dr Savage at Leger Clinic

As Medical Director at Leger Clinic, Doug plays a central role in shaping clinical standards and patient care.

He works closely with patients to:

  • interpret testosterone test results
  • assess symptoms in a clinical context
  • advise on appropriate next steps, including lifestyle, NHS pathways, and private treatment where needed

His focus is on ensuring patients receive clear, balanced guidance — whether they go on to start TRT or explore alternative approaches.

Useful Leger resources

Understanding testosterone levels can be complicated, particularly when symptoms, blood test results, and treatment guidance don’t always align clearly.

Many patients come to Leger after experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, low mood, reduced libido, poor recovery, difficulty building muscle, or ongoing brain fog, often without a clear understanding of what their testosterone results actually mean or what options are available to them.

The following resources may help you better understand testosterone deficiency, explore possible next steps, and learn more about the treatment pathways available through Leger Clinic.

FAQs

Your top questions, answered

Who are the Leger Clinic?

Who are Leger?

We’re a specialist men’s health clinic, led and trained by Dr Doug Savage – one of the UK’s most experienced doctors in testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). For over 25 years, we’ve helped men regain their energy, confidence and drive with safe, science-backed hormone treatments.

What makes you different?

We’re not a new online start-up. Leger has been around since the 1990s, with thousands of patients treated across the UK. We’re CQC Outstanding, which means we meet the highest standards of safety and care. Every patient gets a proper medical assessment, a tailored plan, and ongoing support from real clinicians.

Do you only treat men with low testosterone?

Our focus is on men’s hormone health (low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, and premature ejaculation), but we also support women through menopause and other hormone-related issues. We believe everyone deserves expert, evidence-based care delivered with honesty and compassion.

What is TRT, and who is it for?

TRT stands for testosterone replacement therapy. It’s for men with confirmed low testosterone and ongoing symptoms like low energy, poor sex drive, or low mood, not just a one-off low result.

How do I know if I need TRT?

You’ll need at least two blood tests to confirm your testosterone levels. If they’re low and you have symptoms, one of our TRT experts can help you decide if TRT is right for you.

How does Leger work?
  1. Get tested — Confirm your testosterone is low with two blood tests.
  2. Book a consultation If your results show low testosterone, you can book a 45‑minute video appointment with one of our TRT specialists. Together, you'll review your results, talk symptoms, your health, and future fertility plans.
  3. Start your plan If TRT’s right for you, you’ll join our membership, choose your treatment method (injection, gel, or tablet), and we’ll deliver your scripts and tests to your door.
  4. Track and refine We’ll keep an eye on your blood tests and tweak your treatment as needed. Once things are stable, you get repeat scripts with ongoing support.
Is TRT safe?

TRT is safe when properly managed and monitored. You’ll have regular blood tests and check-ups to make sure everything’s on track.

Will TRT help with energy, mood, or sex drive?

For most men, yes. Studies show TRT can boost energy, mood, and sex drive if your testosterone is genuinely low.

Are there risks or side effects?

All treatments have risks. With TRT, common issues include changes in mood, acne, higher red blood cell counts, or changes to fertility. Side effects can be managed by altering your dose or type of treatment.

Your doctor will keep an eye on things and talk you through any worries.

How long before I feel a difference?

Some men notice changes within a few weeks. For others, it can take a few months. Benefits build over time with the right dose and support.

Do I have to take injections?

No. There are several options, including gels, patches, and injections. We’ll help you find what works for you.

Will TRT affect my fertility?

TRT can lower sperm count. If you’re planning to have children, let us know, as there are alternatives.

Do I have to keep taking TRT forever?

Not always. Most men use TRT long-term, others stop if things improve or if it’s not the right fit. We’ll review this with you regularly.

How much does TRT cost?

We’re upfront about pricing, with no hidden fees. Costs depend on the treatment plan you choose. We’ll talk it through before anything starts.

Can I talk to someone before making a decision?

Absolutely. We’re here for questions. No obligation, no hard sell, just straight answers. Get in touch and we'll be happy to help you out.
