Total testosterone
Total testosterone’s crucial for men's health. It supports your mood, keeps your muscles and bones strong, and boosts your sex drive. Testosterone naturally drops after your 20s, but if it’s too low at any age, you’ll feel it – low sex drive, tired all the time, struggling with weight, or just not feeling yourself.
How to take your test
Take your sample between 7am and 11am, ideally as early as possible.
Avoid biotin supplements for two days before this test — discuss this with your doctor if it's prescribed.

Feedback from men who've done it
I've been a patient for the last 7-8 months and the service is excellent. Very responsive to any questions, very patient whilst try to optimise my levels and superb value for money. Very happy.
I have to say the 5* reviews have been well deserved. The clinic are very responsive to emails (including weekends), they are very professional, polite and give all the information you could want. I'm with Dr Greenwood and we have met via MS Teams. He's a great doc, so helpful, knowledgeable and attentive.

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.
1. Why should I test my testosterone levels?
Around one in four men over 30 has low testosterone — and many don’t even know it. Low testosterone can affect your energy, mood, and sex life, but a simple blood test is the only way to know for sure. Taking that step could lead to the right treatment and a big improvement in how you feel.
2. When is the best time to take a testosterone blood test?
It's best to take your testosterone level nice and early if you can — and definitely no later than 11am. This will ensure you get an accurate baseline level which will help us work out if TRT is right for you.
3. Do I need to fast before the test?
You don't need to fast for a testosterone test, but avoiding heavy meals and alcohol the night before can help ensure accurate results.
4. What level of testosterone is required for a diagnosis?
To diagnose low testosterone, doctors require two blood tests taken at least four weeks apart, both showing low total or free testosterone.
TRT is usually considered for levels below 12 nmol/L (BSSM guidance). In some cases, treatment may be considered up to 15 nmol/L if symptoms strongly suggest low testosterone (ISSM guidance).
However, testosterone levels alone don’t guarantee suitability for TRT — your doctor will carry out a full eligibility assessment with you.
5. Can low testosterone be treated?
Absolutely, that's what we’re here for. Alongside lifestyle changes, low testosterone can be treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).
TRT is a form of hormone replacement to get your testosterone level back to normal. With the right treatment plan, most men see a big improvement in their symptoms and quality of life.
6. Can I take the test if I’m already on TRT?
This test is designed for men who want to check if their testosterone levels are low and assess their suitability for TRT.
